The National Law Journal Names Knobbe Martens to Intellectual Property Hot List

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, one of the largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, has been named to the National Law Journal’s 2013 Intellectual Property Hot List, which recognizes 20 top firms that have demonstrated creative strategies for litigation, patent prosecution, licensing and other transactional work in the intellectual property field.

The National Law Journal (NLJ) cited Knobbe Martens as a major player in the intellectual property field, with their success stemming from their full-service capabilities and combination of legal and technical expertise. The firm was recognized for their ability to provide unmatched, industry-specific knowledge due to their attorneys extensive educational and technical backgrounds with a strategic focus gleaned from real-world business experience.

“A diversity of office locations has been a big plus,” said John Sganga Jr., who has been with the firm for almost 30 years. “Although we do not have offices outside of the U.S., we do a tremendous amount of work for many clients based outside of the U.S.” He added, “By coordinating with counsels in other jurisdictions, we are able to put together a multinational strategy.”

The National Law Journal highlighted the firm’s diversity in industry representation, noting Knobbe Martens’ recent victory for client Nobel Biocare USA, LLC over Technique D'Usinage Sinlab, in which the Court granted Nobel’s motion for summary judgment of non-infringement of all patents-in-suit. In addition, the Court granted all of Nobel’s evidentiary motions, including a motion to exclude the patentee’s damages, and declared Nobel as the prevailing party in the litigation. The firm was also recognized for obtaining patent protection in the U.S. on behalf of a Kyoto University professor who won a Nobel Prize for his work.
