Knobbe Martens Recognized As Top In Industry by LMG Life Sciences

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP partners Ned Israelsen, Christy Lea, Sabing Lee, Steven Maddox, Joseph Mallon, Joseph Re, Joseph Reisman, Gerard von Hoffmann, William Zimmerman and founding partner, Don Martens, have been recognized as “Life Sciences Stars” for their intellectual property practices in the second edition of LMG Life Sciences 2013 published by the Legal Media Group. In addition, the firm as a whole was recognized in the Intellectual Property Rankings.

To compile the lists, the LMG Life Sciences research team conducted nearly 1,000 surveys and interviews with lawyers in the United States, performed a review of public information, and garnered feedback from clients within the industry. The end result is a resource containing listings and analysis of the leading law firms and attorneys in the life sciences sector for pharmaceutical and life sciences executives seeking legal expertise.

Knobbe Martens came highly recommended for its work in patent prosecution and was also recommended for its Hatch-Waxman patent litigation. The firm was recognized for its outstanding accomplishments representing generic pharmaceutical companies in Hatch-Waxman disputes for major companies including Teva, Mylan and Watson. Ned Israelsen, managing partner of the firm’s San Diego office, was recognized for his intellectual property patent prosecution practice. Christy Lea was recognized for her general patent litigation/protection and Hatch-Waxman litigation practice, specifically for combination products, drug formulations, general hospital devices and supplies, generic drugs, implants and prosthetics, new chemical entities, ophthalmology devices, small molecules and surgery and life support devices.

Sabing Lee was recognized for his patent prosecution, patent advisory, strategy and management practice. Lee was further recognized for his work with cardiovascular devices, cosmetic devices, dental devices, general hospital devices and supplies, home health and consumer devices, implants and prosthetics, neurovascular devices, orthopedic devices, spinal implants, tissue and tissue products.

Steven Maddox was recognized for his general patent litigation/protection and Hatch-Waxman litigation practice, specifically for antiviral drugs, biologics, biosimilars, drug formulations, generic drugs, large molecules and vaccines.

Joseph Mallon was noted for making a name for himself on the non-contentious side of the IP industry and was praised for his deep understanding of the technology and attitude towards the industry. He was recognized for his patent prosecution, patent advisory, strategy and management practice, specifically for combination products, drug delivery devices, drug formulations, macromolecules and new chemical entities.

Don Martens, now of counsel to Knobbe Martens, focuses his practice on serving as an arbitrator and special master in intellectual property cases.

Joseph Re was recognized for his patent litigation practice. Re is nationally known for handling high-stakes patent cases for both patent holders and accused infringers. In addition to leading trial teams, he is an appellate specialist.

Joseph Reisman was recognized for his patent prosecution, general patent litigation/protection and Hatch-Waxman litigation practice, specifically for antibodies, biologics, biosimilars, combination products, drug formulations, generic drugs, new chemical entities, proteins/proteomics and small molecules.

Gerard von Hoffmann was recognized for his patent advisory, strategy and management. He focuses his practice on the medical device industry including offensive and defensive competitive strategies, infringement studies, financings, strategic transactions and patent prosecution.

William Zimmerman was recognized as one of the firm’s most active litigators and praised for his recent work representing pharmaceutical manufacturer Ranbaxy in a case that would determine when generic versions of oxycontin would be available to the public.
