Knobbe Martens Racks Up Series of October Accolades

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, one of largest intellectual property law firms in the United States, announced today that October brought a number of significant achievements.

In the last four years the number of patent lawsuits Knobbe Martens handled has soared, resulting in the firm’s rapid climb up Corporate Counsel’s “Patent Litigation Survey” rankings. Between 2011 and 2014 the number of patent cases it handled more than doubled, increasing from 40 to 82.

“We are proud to be recognized for the great results we accomplish for our clients," said Managing Partner, Steven Nataupsky, of Knobbe's recent successes. He added "It is a tribute to our attorneys and staff who consistently provide the highest quality intellectual property legal services available. Our focus on achieving our clients’ intellectual property goals has been the cornerstone of our firm for over 50 years.”

In October, the firm marked many significant accomplishments, including:

  • A Delaware jury awarded longtime Knobbe Martens client Masimo Corp. more than $466 million in damages from Philips Electronics North America Corp. and Philips Medizin Systeme Boblingen GmbH for infringing two Masimo patents for measuring blood oxygen levels. The firm’s victory in Masimo Corp. v. Philips Electronics North America Corp and Philips Medizin Systeme Boblingen GmbH., Case No. 09-80-LPS-MPT (D. Del. 2014) is just the latest in a series of patent lawsuits Knobbe Martens has successfully handled for the medical technology company over the last decade.
  • Knobbe Martens leapt into 7th place in Corporate Counsel’s 2014 Patent Litigation Survey list, which ranks law firms according to how many federal district court patent suits they handled in 2013. Knobbe Martens’ new ranking, reflecting representation of 82 district court cases, marks the biggest year-over-year jump of any of the 50 firms on the list; last year the firm ranked 23rd.
  • The firm was chosen by the San Francisco and Los Angeles Daily Journal as one of the Top Boutique Law Firms statewide for 2014 in the publication’s inaugural list. The editors considered the “richness of history of the firm’s practice as well as the current book of cases” in making the selection.
  • Knobbe Martens was named the 2014 Top Intellectual Property Law Firm in the United States by Lawyer Monthly magazine, which recognizes firms that have successfully adapted and responded to the demands of doing business in the post-recession business environment.
