Knobbe Martens Client Applied Medical Resolves All Patent Litigation with Tyco Healthcare/Covidien

| Joseph R. Re

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP is pleased to announce that longstanding client Applied Medical Resources Corp. has resolved all of its patent litigation with Tyco Healthcare/Covidien, including a jury trial scheduled for March, 2015. The parties and their predecessors have had ongoing patent litigation over various laparoscopic-surgery related products since the mid-1990s, and Knobbe Martens has been handling those cases for Applied Medical since 2004. The firm acted as lead counsel in four patent infringement jury trials in California and Texas, all involving minimally invasive surgical devices known as trocars.

“It is an honor and pleasure to represent Applied Medical,” said Joseph Re of Knobbe Martens, who acted as lead counsel for the company. “Rarely do lawyers get the chance to develop such a close relationship with a client as we do with Applied Medical, ” added Re.

Applied Medical of Rancho Santa Margarita, California is a market leader in providing innovative products that improve patient outcomes and enable the advancement of minimally invasive surgery. The terms of the settlement agreement are confidential.
