Knobbe Martens Client the Tronie Foundation to Be Featured on CNN’s World Business Today

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear LLP, one of the nation’s leading intellectual property law firms, announced today that its pro bono work on behalf of leading international anti-trafficking organization the Tronie Foundation will be recognized this month on CNN’s World Business Today.

The not-for-profit Tronie Foundation, based in the Seattle area, was founded in 2006 by former child trafficking victims Rani and Trong Hong to serve as a voice for the millions of people worldwide who have been sold into slavery and advocate for a world free of slavery. In 2014, with the Foundation’s urging, the United Nations formally recognized July 30 as the annual World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.

Knobbe Martens has been handling the Tronie Foundation’s intellectual property protection on a pro bono basis since 2013. Knobbe Martens attorney Samantha Yarnell, a member of the firm’s Pro Bono Committee, has worked closely with the Tronie Foundation to file and register trademark and copyright applications, including those for the Freedom Seal, the Freedom Bird logo, and the Tronie Foundation name.

“Many nonprofits are unaware of the importance of protecting their intellectual property in order to grow their brand and build goodwill, and I’m pleased that through Knobbe Martens’ pro bono program I can dedicate time to educating and assisting remarkable organizations like the Tronie Foundation,” said Yarnell. “The Tronie Foundation deserves enhanced recognition for its powerful and life-changing work, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to help it achieve this by protecting its intellectual property rights.”

Rani Hong, who in addition to co-founding and serving as President of the Tronie Foundation is Special Advisor for Victims with the United Nations Global Initiative to Fight Human Trafficking (UN.GIFT), credits Knobbe Martens with providing the foundation with increased confidence in the platforms it has spent years establishing, including the Freedom Seal initiative.
