WIPR Names Three Knobbe Martens Partners “World IP Leaders”

Knobbe Martens Olson & Bear, LLP is pleased to announce that Partners Jeff Van Hoosear, Joseph Re, and Susan Natland, based in the firm’s Orange County office, have been selected for inclusion in World Intellectual Property Review’s (WIPR) 2016 directory of “World IP Leaders.” Introduced last year, the comprehensive guide features profiles of the top intellectual property lawyers practicing in the areas of patents and trademarks around the globe.

To compile the guide, the WIPR research team sought peer nominations and subsequently contacted and vetted thousands of law firm and in-house attorneys, taking into account nominees’ prominence, practice history, notable cases, and involvement in the wider IP community through speaking engagements and published articles.

Jeff Van Hoosear focuses on international trademark and unfair competition matters. His practice also includes domestic and foreign trademark selection and clearance, trademark and copyright prosecution, proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), intellectual property licensing, domain name and website content issues, and state rights of publicity. Mr. Van Hoosear represents numerous clients in the apparel and sporting goods industries as well as those in the food and beverage, automotive, aesthetics, fashion, financial, insurance, software, and entertainment industries.

Joseph Re is a trial and appellate attorney known for handling high-stakes patent cases throughout the country for both patent holders and accused infringers. In addition to handling appeals from his own cases, Mr. Re is often selected to argue appeals in patent cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in cases handled by his fellow partners and by other law firms. Mr. Re served as the President of the Federal Circuit Bar Association and as a member of the Federal Circuit’s Advisory Council, and since 1990 has authored numerous appellate briefs on behalf of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) as amicus curiae before the Supreme Court of the United States and various appellate courts.

Susan Natland has over 18 years of experience representing high-profile clients to protect their valuable brand assets. She counsels clients on trademark selection, protection, licensing and enforcement, including TTAB cases and litigation. Ms. Natland also handles copyright and rights of publicity protection and enforcement, as well as emerging data protection and privacy issues related to intellectual property. Ms. Natland has also had the valuable opportunity to work as virtual in-house trademark counsel for a major Internet retailer for almost two years, providing her with hands-on practical experience and insight into business drivers and concerns. Ms. Natland represents clients in a broad spectrum of industries, including fashion and apparel, food and beverage, automotive, cosmetics, healthcare, medical and dental, financial, computer hardware and software, telecommunications, retail including e-commerce and direct selling, and sports and entertainment industries. Ms. Natland also finds time to give back and currently teaches the Trademark Law Clinic course at UCLA Law School.
