General Summary: As a senior business development professional, the Director of Business and Practice Development reports to the Firm Managing Partner and works closely with the firm’s Business Development Committee and practice chairs. In addition, the Director works closely with firm partners to identify and pursue new business opportunities, support the marketing efforts of individual attorneys and promote the firm’s brand. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strategic approach to marketing and business development and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-moving setting involving multiple internal clients. This position currently oversees a team of seven.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and implementation of the firm’s strategic marketing and business development plans in support of the firm’s business goals, including collaborating with the firm’s business development committee, practice group chairs, and attorneys.
- Work closely with practice group chairs and individual attorneys on identifying opportunities and facilitating a business development strategy to transform the opportunities into clients.
- Drafting pitches, RFP responses (both identifying opportunities and overseeing the process), presentations, talking points, and other firm-wide marketing initiatives.
- Oversee the development and execution of firm events, conferences, sponsorships, and related follow-up and ROI tracking.
- Assist attorneys in identifying opportunities for speaking engagements, seminars, CLEs, conferences, and trade shows and support the development of related materials.
- Work with the marketing communications team, helping manage the firm’s brand and visibility in the marketplace.
- Oversee production of marketing collateral and pitch content.
- Oversee market research and competitive intelligence gathering.
- Maintain and expand the firm’s marketing culture through the development of ongoing training, resources and support services.
- Direct coaching program for new partners and other stakeholders.
- Work with relevant practice and or industry groups to develop and execute programs and develop pipeline opportunities (client teams, industry teams, etc.).
- Contribute to the development of the business development budget and provide ongoing oversight and management.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, public relations, communication, or a related field is required.
- 7-10 years’ experience in professional services, marketing, and business development preferred.
- Minimum of three years of demonstrated management experience in law firm marketing and business development.
- Demonstrated leadership and people management skills required.
- Strong project management skills with superior initiative and follow through.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
- Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
- Proficiency with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is required. CRM and knowledge management systems are a plus.
Base salary for this position is $200,000 to $250,000 annually, depending on qualifications and experience.
Supervisor’s Title: Managing Partner
Status: Exempt, Full-time
Location: Must be located near one of our West Coast offices; Southern California preferred. Full-time in office presence is preferred, but a hybrid arrangement will be considered under appropriate circumstances. This position will require travel to the firm’s U.S. offices as needed.
